RECAP 3/30 Seattle Reign FC
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
have a gummy go to bed.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Mario said, have a gummy go to bed.
Hey,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Welcome to
Casual FC in Angel City Match preview
pod and footy therapy Pod featuring
two certified footy therapists.
I'm your host Mario Salazar with my
uber excited co-host Angela Morales.
'cause we've got a really fun
night planned for ourselves.
We are recording this recap on an amazing
kind of, we didn't want to wait too
long to be able to get back to this.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
to talk about.
We had to get it done quick.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yes.
And then right after this, we're
recording a special episode, which
will be coming out pretty soon so
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: Get
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: you'll
know by the time you hear all this.
So we're both a little giddy,
we're both a little excited.
Hopefully we go through this
amazing recap and give it its
justice, but also, you know.
We didn't wanna wait until like
two weeks later when everybody was
like, you know what, what happened?
We gotta remind ourselves.
So, uh, we are recapping our amazing
win against the Seattle Reign.
We are technically
undefeated for the season,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yes,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
which is amazing.
Better better start to the season than
we did last year, at least emotionally
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Oh, so
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: well, I mean.
Last year, granted by the third game, I
think we, we, we had one draw, and this
is going off of memory, but this, I think
we had one draw, one loss, and one win.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I think we were like
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: So it
wasn't like terrible, but it was,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
though because it had bad
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: it was,
yeah, there were bad vibes, bad juju.
This year feels a lot different.
So I think, I think it was, it was great.
Um, I watched the match from
home, um, and it looked great.
It sounded great.
They, they looked amazing.
And Angela was in stadium,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
It was bonkers.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: so.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I am going to put this out there
now so I don't say it later.
I did have to leave early.
I had to leave at like the 80th
minute as I'm walking out is like.
The Christen Press situation
because my mom and I were rushing
from BMO to Hermosa for Eva's gig.
'cause like my family's there.
It was like a whole thing.
we were like, we have to leave now.
So I'm like running around saying
bye to people and then we're
like hauling ass to the car.
And as a, like, I'm walking out
of the stadium, like pulling
up the iHeart app like this.
My mom's like, put it louder.
I'm like, I can't, it's too like,
you know, it's like we're getting
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
It's too loud in here.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
But it was, it was absolutely fantastic.
It was, BMO felt like BMO should
feel the best way I can explain it.
It was a vibe.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: It looked, it
looked good, and it sounded great on tv.
So, um, and, and on, on iHeart.
Um, it just, it felt
like I missed something.
It just didn't work out with
our schedules, but I, I'm
very happy that we had a win.
And so the reason we we're.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
very excited.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah, so the
reason real quick, the reason why I'm
recording, why we are recording this now.
There is no match this week.
This week is an international break.
A lot of team members from
across the NWSL are all being
called up for international play.
Um, some of them are training,
some of them are actual, uh,
international friendlies and, um.
You know, just kind of gearing up
towards the next World Cup, that
kind of, uh, stuff gearing up towards
the, the Olympics, like, you're just
kind of, it, it takes a long time.
You don't get to play with your
international team that often,
so, you know, it, it, it's a lot
longer, more drawn out process.
So this is one week where there's
an international break, but we
had a bunch of players that have
been called up for various teams.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yeah, so let's start
with like the young guns.
Fuller got called up for
the U 19 training camp.
Um, elderly Shaw, who's one
of our assistant coaches
who's been with the team.
I wanna say since like first or
second season, I don't remember
what I think second season,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
maybe first.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I wanna
say it from the first season.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: so.
Yeah, I think, okay.
She's been here, she's
been here for a minute.
She got called up as an assistant
coach for the U 20 team.
Savvy King got called up for the
training camp for the U 23 team.
So that's already two players and a coach
that are called up in the development
teams and for the development stuff, is
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
And, and during, during the broadcast
of the game, they interviewed, um, Emma,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yes.
Yeah,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: uh, they, they.
They interviewed her during the halftime,
um, and they were talking about the
fact that, you know, uh, the friendlies
are coming up against Brazil, that,
you know, that they, they announced
this entire roster all the way, as we
were talking about all the way down
to the U 20, the U nineteens, um, for
training camps and things like that.
And she was just talking.
It was really cool for her to talk
about just the, the idea of like.
Building up, bringing back development
or just creating a whole, like an actual
kind of structured development system
and, and having these players train
alongside some of the senior players,
but then that way they can, one, learn
and two, um, the coaching staff can see
these players a lot more closely and a
lot more intimately where they can like
start making these transitions between.
The different levels and
like up into the senior team.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
It's gonna be really exciting.
So then for senior call-ups, gonna start
with the international folks first.
We've got Alana Kennedy for the
Australian team, Casey Phair for
the Korean team, and Claire Emslie
for the Scotland folks, the Scots.
I'm very excited.
I just get, I'm an an
eighth Scottish, but.
I've, I think I've mentioned it
like the first year we did this,
like my grandma passed away before
we found out she was Scottish.
'cause she had no idea about
her heritage like at all.
And she was half English, half
Scottish, like first generation.
And so, first generation Scottish.
So I'm super bummed 'cause we didn't
find this out until after she passed.
'cause I would've been able to get
my passport, like I would've been
able to have a Scottish passport.
I'm like, damn it.
We if like, uh, if only we'd found
this out like two years earlier.
But, um, I actually.
Bought a plot like a little
five by five plot of land.
My mom got me for my birthday in Scotland.
helps like with reforestation.
So like you're helping the forest
efforts in Scotland, but also because
I'm technically a landowner, I have
an official title, like I'm Lady
Angela, my middle name Morales.
So Booya, oh, I have a cer.
I have a certificate like officially.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: that part.
Not that part.
I like that you casually just, uh,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: my
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: blank,
uh, blanked out your middle name,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
It's because it's not my favorite.
Like,
but I don't
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: okay?
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
rude because it's my aunt's, it's one
of my aunt's names, like it's a short
version of her name, and I'm just
like, it just doesn't, I don't know,
like I don't connect with it, but it,
it's also, it's just my middle name.
It's whatever.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
People don't need to know
my whole government name.
I.
The internet is forever.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
Yes, that is true.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
somewhere.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: okay.
And with that, the senior
team, uh, we have, uh.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I completely forgot.
I was like, yeah, we got internationals.
Let's talk about Scotland.
So.
Alyssa Thompson got her call
up, which everybody expected it.
It's super dope.
Angelina Anderson got a training team,
like she's there for training camp to be
with the team, to kinda it out, figure
out her place in it, because this is the
year of who is our keeper with Alyssa
Nare stepping away from the national team.
This is frigging huge.
It's completely up for grabs.
There's no, we went from like.
Nicole Barnhardt to Hope Solo to Alyssa.
Na.
Like there's been no doubt of who
the keeper's gonna be for the team.
And now it's like, oh, we got options.
We've got options, and
we've got like talent.
keeper pool is
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
So I'm very
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
for her to be there, to get, you
know, in front of the coaching staff.
Like, I'm so happy for her.
She's been there before.
Like, let's, let's keep
this, let's keep this going.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
And she, yeah.
Just to be clear, she hasn't
been named to the actual roster.
She's been named to the training
camp for the senior team.
Um, but the f Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
like they need, they
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
players, and you need top caliber
practice players, but those practice
players sometimes end up getting
the call up, like you're the
alternates, you're the, you're the
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
people in waiting, which is dope.
Um.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: There's,
there's plenty of other friendlies
that are coming up, I believe at
the end of May, there's another,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
think,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: um, friendly
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
July, they just announced
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
Something like,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
DC and
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
back east.
But yeah,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: So
there's, there's a couple of of
games coming up where, you know, the,
the lineup can be switching around.
Um, it's the, as we like to
say, uh, time to get weird.
Um, because none of all of these
are friendlies, you know, if, if,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
everything counts.
It
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yes.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
and like stats, but it
doesn't like impact things.
It's like scrimmages, but
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
it counts.
Like I had, um, oh, and
then last but not least.
most of you know, Tiana Davidson
went down last weekend and I hate
it and I don't wanna talk about it.
There's been no official
announcement that I've seen so far.
I haven't really been on the internet
today from Gotham, but we haven't
gotten the three letter curse yet.
And I swear to God if it happens,
I'm gonna cry 'cause I love Tiana
Davidson, Giselle got the call up as
a replacement player for Tiana, which
is like, honestly, what an honor.
Because Tiana's just legit.
We'll talk about her more when we
talk about Gotham in like a week.
But like Tiana's, what's up
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
ways.
will if you have not already or watch
the episode of the Women's Game.
I think it's a women's game or it's
the uh, it is the women's game.
Yeah.
with Sam Muis interviewing Tiana and
talking about her history with the
team and all of that, and I'll talk
about it when we talk about Gotham.
'cause it's a wonderful episode.
She deserves the armband forever
until she says she doesn't want it.
That's my opinions.
But back to the NWSL.
We had some, some chaos.
So BMO is
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: You, you,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
our, our fan base.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
you forgot Alana and Casey.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
No, I said them first.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Did
you, did I, did I miss that?
Okay, then.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
yeah.
I started with our international
players and then completely forgot
that we had a, uh, US players,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Okay.
Sorry.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Um, the Chaos Award this week essentially
goes to everything that happened in
the first 10 minutes of the our match.
Honestly, fricking bonkers.
We almost scored in like the
53rd, second, that I was like, oh.
We had, like I said, in the
Discord, we had a successful
three clap 'cause Foudy did it.
So that's like, that's two in a row.
Two.
Two or three.
How many home games have we had?
Two,
Granted, it's because Sam UIs and
Julie Foudy did it, and it's like
the national team version and
like, we should never have strayed.
Um, but like, it sounded good.
I'm like, oh, okay.
Successful.
Three clap.
We're gonna win.
Shit's different today.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I can
confirm that there was a, there
was a prediction that we were going
to win from the very beginning.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I was like, red alert,
you can go in the Discord.
It's in there in writing,
in the wrong thread.
And then because I was too
excited, it was a whole thing.
the game starts, we almost score, then we
almost score again, then we almost score
again, and then we score and then like
eight seconds later there's a penalty.
And we're like, what?
I,
I have words and like we
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: It?
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
found out who, like, you know, you
get the like, uh, referee lineup.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah, I that.
Okay.
So.
To, to, to set the scene for everyone.
Um, right.
It's a home game.
Most of, most of y'all
were, were there, right?
Um, my schedule didn't allow, so
I was at home because my schedule
didn't allow, I wasn't even at home
for the beginning of the match.
Like, I, I think I started watching,
uh, maybe about 20 minutes in.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yeah, you missed all
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
To, to the match.
Yeah.
Like I missed all the
good stuff basically.
Um, but all I was getting
was was pings on, on Discord
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yep.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: and I
was like, oh geez, what's going on
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
like the whistle blows there and
like everybody's like, okay, yeah,
there was a foul outside the boxes
and be a free kick, whatever.
Like, okay.
And next thing you know, he's pointing
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: to a penalty?
Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
And it was like, sir, what?
What?
Even my mom was like, was
outside the penalty box, right?
And I was like, yes, thank you.
Exactly what is happening.
Upon multiple reviews in the stadium,
it's very clear that it was like.
Maybe a foul, maybe not.
was definitely a play on the ball.
Like it wasn't like it was a, you
know, like a egregious, if you will.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
was just fine.
And next thing you know there's penalty
and then he's like, oh, hold on, hold on.
Like oh two, two VAR.
Like, let me, let me
listen to my headphones.
I don't care if they lost
the feed from the game.
I don't care.
What was that?
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: The, even
the replay was like when I was, when
I was watching, when I was watching
the, the, um, the highlights because.
Because at the beginning,
I, I saw the replay.
I was like, how was that?
Because I wanted to know, I wanted, I got
the, I got the alert and it said score.
And I'm like, well, you know,
we're in the, we're in the
recap part of this anyways,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
yeah.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: so,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
just skipped, we'll get
back to the other stuff.
We're just going into the recap 'cause we
gotta talk, we gotta talk about this deep
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yeah.
So, uh, so Alyssa, right, like scores and.
And I'm like, yeah, that was
a beautiful, beautiful shot.
Top bins, like top corner, just
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
is from
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: across the.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I'm, I'm really enjoying this.
Kennedy to Alyssa and then
Alyssa to Kennedy like.
This is the third game in a row
that the two of them have connected.
They've talked about it, Kennedy
talked about it in the post game, like,
this is, uh, a match made in heaven.
And they're both like, yeah, we wanna
keep this going, keep this connected.
So if they just wanna keep trading
off, so like next game Kennedy
scores, maybe they both score like
assist and goal assist and goal,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
for it.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yep.
Yeah.
And so like I get the alert that's
at eight minutes and then a minute
later it says like, penalty.
And I'm like, what the hell?
The penalty was officially recorded
as being taken at the 12th minute, but
the fact that it went like eight minute
banger from Alyssa to ninth minute,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
that's
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yeah.
I'm just like, I'm like, I'm getting
these alerts on my phone from
Discord and from like FOM Mob and
I'm like, what the hell is going on?
Um, so yeah, we.
Get back to it.
The, the game, the game
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
The game
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
from my perspective, felt good.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
so chaotic
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yes.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
the first 20, 30 minutes, and then
it was like, oh, it's halftime.
Like, it was just confusing,
like what just happened.
But the funny thing was up in, in our
section, um, we're sitting there with
my mom and then Katie, one of our
friends slash listeners slash homies.
Came over to sit with us
and is booing the ref.
Every, like the whole stadium is pissed.
You hear like little kids being
like, I even know that's not foul.
Like all kinds of stuff.
It gets quiet and a
couple rows up behind me.
This crystal clear, small little
voice outta nowhere, ref you suck.
It was Fanta.
The whole section just turned around,
started applauding like, good job.
what's up.
Like woo.
then later on somebody else
started a refuse suck chant.
And then it happened over in our 2 27.
Again, like everybody is like, this
kid is our, this kid is what's up?
Like this is the greatest thing.
Kind of dies down and someone.
Over a little bit from me
leans over and goes, Hey dad.
'cause like the kiddos there,
their dad, they're like, good job.
Like you're raising your kid, right?
Yeah.
It was,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Uh,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
first half of first quarter
of the game essentially.
But
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
we, so one thing that Isaac and Tracy
talked about on the post game, which
I really wanted to bring up, was.
Seattle was down, heavy hitters.
Lynn was out.
Um, Fishlock was out.
Jaima was out.
Like there was a lot of people
out for ver like various reasons.
Small injuries, big injuries, whatever.
Last season we don't win this game.
Like last season we would
play okay, but we don't.
We don't win this game in this fashion.
Even with, I don't wanna say second
string 'cause I don't like saying
second string when it comes to pros.
'cause I'm like, like your first
pick on the dodgeball court any day.
you know, like you have subs
essentially starting, folks that
aren't maybe necessarily playing
in their natural position.
That's a game you need to capitalize on.
And we had talked about that, like
this is a really going to be the
turning point for us this season.
We either pull out a win
or we have another draw.
the fact that Angel City
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: And
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
out, Claire
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I mean, it was.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
banger of a ball into the box,
Riley cheering in, like rose
into the sky just bunk into
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: For her
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
the goal for
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: first NWSL
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
professional
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
and just, so good.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
Yeah, I think so.
I, and then I've, I've heard this.
I want just, just to talk about
the second string idea there.
Yes.
It's kind of a, a weird term to call.
Like it, it, I think it just
feels bad when it really isn't,
like there's no honest negative
connotation to the second string.
Like you're just using
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
but it's you're on a team and B
team and you just kind of flip
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
on the opponent.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: but there,
but there is some truth to this idea
of like a second string not being.
Because the reason you're a team, your,
your, your a list players do, like when
you have a team that's gelling really
well as we are starting to build up,
um, um, it, it feels very cohesive and
it's because they practice together
and it's because all of that, but.
They have a system and they
have trust, and they're building
confidence with each other.
As soon as you start replacing too many
of those pieces, it starts to fall apart.
And that's where you kind of
end up with this B team, right?
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
if you will.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
Um, I was listening to another
podcast and, and, uh, a guy who, uh.
You know, he's just really good at
like analyzing stats and whatnot.
Um, but in a very digestible way.
He just, he mentioned that there
was, there was some type of study
where it was like, if you, if you
remove three of the core team,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Mm-hmm.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: that's
when things start breaking down.
So like when, and I've, I've kept
that in mind whenever I start seeing
games where it's like, oh, we're
up to like our, uh, um, our fifth.
Uh, player, um, being subbed in,
you're like, okay, now shit's
gonna get a little wiry now.
'cause 'cause you've, you've
removed the core, right?
And, and,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
sometimes it's a risk and
sometimes that risk pays off.
So in the second half, Giselle went
down at, we thought it was a cramp.
I think she may have gotten like pleaded,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yeah.
She got,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
or stepped on something.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: she got
stepped, she got stepped on or something
like, but she was limping, limp.
Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
not fun.
But um, uh.
We had a sub come on for her, and then
Savvy King started cramping, which this
is the hard part because cramping can
be caused by like a million things.
It can be caused by from like dehydration.
It can be like, which is what
everybody thinks, or like,
oh, I need to eat a banana.
I don't have enough potassium,
like I'm out of electrolytes.
It can also be caused by the weather.
It can be caused, it can just
be like genetic that you're
more prone to muscle cramps it,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
we're gonna get real sciencey.
It can also be on where a woman is
in her menstrual cycle, where your
hormones are, where your body's at.
So like.
There are so many things that go
into like, it, it could be like,
oh yeah, I ate the same thing.
I ate every game day and I
just didn't, I ate two bites
less, or something like that.
Like something so minute.
But you're just kind of
going off what you do.
But bodies are so
different from each other.
It's also, um, it can also be like,
like I said, it can be hereditary.
It can be just like.
Your, your family is more prone to
muscle cramps, thank God mine isn't.
Um, but it can also be like ethnicity
sometimes, depending on cultural diets
or cultural history, things like that.
Like there's so many factors that
go into why your muscles cramp and.
I think, I don't know what this is
like for, I mean like for Giselle,
everybody thought she cramped and then
it was like, oh, that's not a cramp.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
No, no, no.
When.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
going on with savvy,
they'll get it figured out.
And like I said, it could be
a million different things.
It could also be because she's
young, like, and she needs
to warm up a little bit more.
Like there's so many
factors that we don't know.
Training plans consistently change
nutrition plans consistently change.
Like Dawn Scott, who I've talked about on
here before, she just finished her tenure
with the Washington Spirit, but prior to
that she worked with US Soccer and the
Women's National team and effectively
changed the women on that team were.
Trained and managed and everything
because her whole theory, and she
studied this for years, but her whole
theory is that women are not small men.
We're our own creatures.
We should be studied as such.
So
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
everything revolt, like diets change
during different phases of menstrual
cycles, diets, you know, like exercise
changes because honestly, I will.
first person to tell you, you can go
one day, walk in the weight room, max
out, feel like you're the top of the
world, and like within 48 hours you're
like, I can't lift a 10 pound dumbbell.
What is this?
Like your body's just like loosey
goosey, just spaghetti noodles
and it doesn't make any sense.
So are weird.
They'll get it figured out.
But towards the end of the game, SAVI
had started cramping and like, you know.
was a little stressful because Megan
Reid was out sick, we didn't really
have a good center back replacement.
I mean, I don't wanna say we didn't
have, like Alana Kennedy slid
back and, and Madison Hammond took
the midfield when Savvy came out.
But still, like, you want, like you
said, you want those core people to
stay where they, me, stay where they
were to keep the, the vibe going, but
we held it subbed in Christian Press.
Of course she,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
And you had to leave.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
scores a
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: So did you.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
of a goal.
'cause I saw it.
I've watched a million times.
Gets called
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Did you
see it in stadium or was that one
of the ones that you, you missed?
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Like we, like my mom and I hoofed it.
We like booked it out of, of the stadium
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah, let's
try to get ahead of everybody and yeah,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
they called it back, which
I think should be illegal.
At at, there's a certain point in
someone's career where it's like,
just let it, just let it happen.
Alex
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: we've.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Press, like there's certain players
where you're just like, listen, I
don't, I don't care if they were off.
I counted like,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
Yeah.
It,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
press goal.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: they
called it on the, on the broadcast.
They were like, yeah,
that was, that was off.
That was like pretty, yeah,
she was pretty clearly off.
Um, we are proponents
here of the Vibe's goal.
Uh, we've said it before where
like, if the goal just hits the
vibe, like you just kind of, you
gotta be like, eh, well, it counts.
Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
and there was also something in the
first half where the fourth referee
who shall remain unnamed, but if you
wanna find out who it was, go discord.
'cause we remember Trevor, he called the
ball, like the ball goes out very clearly
on a rain player and calls it their ball.
Everybody's like, sir,
This is not how this works.
Like the players were confused,
the stands, everybody's hollering.
It was a mess.
They got their shit together in
the second half, thank goodness.
But it was a mess.
But
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Uh.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
like you said, technically
we're undefeated.
We have not dropped.
We have not dropped a game,
which I'm so pumped about.
Um.
getting there we're, we're jelling.
The team actually made the change.
We were kind of hoping for, or
like alluded to in the sense that
Katie Zel started over Macy Hodge
and Hodge came in in the second
half and it was, I think that's, I
think that's our starting lineup.
And I think that we all kind of knew, but
I think they were giving her a shot to
kind of get the jitters out, see where
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah, it.
Yeah, and like we were saying,
it all comes back to minutes.
Like you give them some minutes,
the first couple games aren't
crucial, so, you know, give them some
minutes, get on some playing time.
Um, actual playing time in front of a
crowd is different than training time, um,
you know, in front of the training staff.
Like it's
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: ri
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
different vibe, different energy.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Riley Tiernan talked about that
in the post game Presser, how
she was like that first game.
I was terrified that second
game, I was terrified.
I've never played in front
of 20,000 people before.
And she goes, but then
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
Going.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
remember you've played this game
since you were five years old.
Like it's the same
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
but it's just really loud.
And she goes, it was just
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: It is.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
an adjustment.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: and
being your, your first game being
a home opener at BMO, which is
going to be close to 20,000 people.
And then the second game being,
uh, a match up in Portland,
which is like, yes, it got rain.
Like there was rain and a lot of people
were probably stayed home or whatever,
but you still got a whole crew.
And, and the riveters are no jokes.
So like,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yeah.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yeah.
Uh.
I, I've been able to be on the
field for a couple events, like
I've held the flag, um, I've held
the, the crest in the middle.
Um, and
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
It's
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
yeah, it's, it's intimidating.
It's, it's like, and then
from there, the pitch.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
corner stuff, it was like.
We're that loud, like ding.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
it, got it, got it.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, all right, well that was.
The amazing just kind of game.
It was, it was all around.
I think it moved really fast.
It played really well.
Um, it just felt like we are finding
what we need to do and sure, we're
not a hundred percent, but like we
said from the beginning, as long
as we're seeing improvement, that's
the part that you want, right?
Like Yeah.
Um, so
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: Oh,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
like we always do, we,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
that we're in sole
possession of fourth place.
Fourth,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: possession.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
like one hand, and not all my f
like, like 1, 2, 3, 4 right now.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
Less than one full hand.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Like this is
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Um,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I'm freaking
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
yes, it's, it was great.
So because of all of this, we did
what our, what we usually do, and
we posted up on, on Instagram for
some footy therapy and, and being
like, here's your prompt, everybody.
And it was very simple.
Like, I was trying to think of, you know,
usually I try to think of some stupid.
A like punny thing to say.
Um, but for this one it was
just pretty straightforward.
It was just finish this
tonight looked blank.
Um, and you know, if you follow the
prompt, if you don't, either way.
Thanks for responding.
Yeah.
Um, so on our, on our discord, uh, of
course Ethan comes in with his haiku,
which, you know, he's just defacto, like,
that's the only way he can speak now.
He can only speak in haikus.
Um.
Sunrise when it last.
Why even have review?
Bad crowd, the box?
Hell yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
There was two
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: It's just it.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
last episode was figuring out
the midfield, maybe starting
zm over hodge, which happened,
and then crashing the box like.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
gotta get people in there.
It's crashing for
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Look, if
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
for the bot.
Like it's, yes,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: if we're, if
we're starting to get these tall players.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: use
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
Then let's use them.
And then Nick came in with
Just Fuller killed it.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
She did.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: And she did.
Yeah.
Honestly, Katie, uh, like we know,
like we know we were where we were
and what we were supposed to be also.
It looked like the rain and
freezing cold, but it wasn't.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yeah.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: So,
you know, tonight looked great.
Alicia tonight looked
promising, aggressive and fun.
Dustin also came in with, even
from a thousand miles away, I
could feel the crowd roaring.
Uh, Dustin also missed the
game just like I did so.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
on a cool little getaway his cool wife.
now we're friends.
But, um, he went to a cider house and
they had, he's also gluten-free, so
he and I like talked about it a lot.
And they had gluten-free donut
flights with seasonal flavored donuts.
Yeah.
So now Dustin and his wife and
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: That
feels more like a Portland thing.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
no, it's.
Denver is big food city, big, big and
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Okay.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: Um,
or like, uh, distilled drinks if you will.
but Dustin and his wife, Eva and
I are now like, oh, so when the
Denver team starts, we're gonna
have a little gluten-free trip.
Sick.
See you then.
And so we're
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Nice,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
friends, like, so yeah, I'm
very excited to go to Denver.
I was supposed to go to Denver
for my birthday in 2020, and I sat
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: and
I think that was the year that I did my.
Because I have a beer crawl
every year for my birthday.
That was the year, well, because of 2020,
I did a backyard beer crawl where I,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I can't wait to hear what this is.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I.
Made punny little names
for bars in my backyard.
Um, like at the playground, um, at the
hammock, uh, I had a little inflatable
pool for the kids and we were playing
there, uh, in the, in the afternoon.
Um, got a bunch of candy
beers and then, um.
Because it was the era of Zoom, uh,
zoomed in, provided friends with a
different zoom link for every bar and
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Oh, you went hard.
is the most
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
I've ever heard.
Anyone who's listening, this
is so completely accurate.
Like,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Okay.
So yes, I do, I do a beer
crawl for my birthday.
I've done it since I turned 30.
Um, it's just a fun way to be like,
Hey, if you're, if you have the time
pass by, if you don't, you don't.
Like, it's no pressure to anybody.
No pressure to me.
Um, but I was doing it in my backyard and
my brother sent me the zoom of the last
spot, which was, um, at, at, you know,
the, the table that we have out here.
Um.
He sent me the zoom because
I don't remember any part
of that zoom and apparently
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Are you admitting this or what?
I can't wait.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908:
I'm, no, I'm gonna stop there.
We can offline this,
but Yes.
I didn't remember.
I like, I didn't, I made it through
the end of the beer crawl, but I don't
remember the end of the beer crawl, so,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
were
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: okay.
Yes.
And I was in the safety of my backyard.
Well, safety, I mean, there's
a lot of things that can get
hurt back here, but, all right.
Jan Anthony came back with,
uh, almost fully baked.
If we come together
before June, we're good.
And yeah, like we're saying, first
couple games building, we can, we can,
we can afford to take a couple lumps
and we can make it all the way out.
Max Good.
Midfield makes me happy.
And then Doug came in with solid, loved
seeing rain players bouncing off our
squad when they tried to run through them.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
was, I don't know if you caught it on
the broadcast, but there was a moment
in the second half bef right before
she ended up getting subbed out, where
one of the players ran into Katie Lum.
And so like I've talked about the
fact that in high school, my nickname
on my basketball team was the wall.
Like I'd set a screen.
You couldn't get past me.
Katie wasn't exactly prepared, like
you could tell that she knew she was
gonna get hit, but not like that.
so rain player, I don't even know
who it was, just bodied her, and
she just stood there and was like.
Blinky, you could like, I
could feel the like, oh my God.
Like, oh, my whole body.
the, the rain player just kinda like
flew off of her, got up like, oh crap.
And like kept running
and the game continued.
Like there was no foul,
there was no dirty play.
It's like they just collided,
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
they, they both got bodied
but indifferent ways.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Um, okay.
And then, uh, Jeff came in with
tonight looked like a vision,
a plan in motion, and executed.
The current squad that has been formed
showed what the future can look like.
They're very tenacious, speedy,
crisp, gave big effort, and showed
a drive to the final second.
The team had it all tonight.
Huge game for before the break
with Hayes watching on momentum
before the international break.
A giant leap in the standings.
All good things to build on.
Perfect mix of youth and veterans tonight.
All contributing,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: It
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I think.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
great.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
And then Cassandra, she
commented both on discord and ig,
which, great, we'll take both.
And then so, uh, tonight felt hopeful.
Still cooking.
So yeah,
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Yeah.
And
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: we're very
much, very, very much in that space.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
on Instagram, max also came in
there and said like, we looked
like a team, which was true, like.
I think it was, uh, Katie that
mentioned everybody knew where they
were supposed to be and knew where
everybody else was supposed to be.
So those connections were being made.
Kennedy Fuller hit a sick back
heel, not Meg, a player like that.
And
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I will say, I.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
ugh.
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: I did notice
that throughout the entire match of that,
I was watching it, it almost looked like
they all got the little memo of like, Hey,
for the, for the whole game, why don't we
all try doing little cheeky back heels?
'cause like they, everybody was doing it.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906: it.
Yes, it
marlo_1_04-01-2025_214908: Yeah.
But, but that Kennedy one like.
angela--cry-ball-_1_04-01-2025_214906:
Um, Jordan said So back, baby.
Never a dull moment.
and Sam said, fire with a fire emoji.
Mirna said that it was inspiring
with three exclamation marks.
Kay said different in
all caps with two hearts.
Zach said, we look like we're cooking for
that Michelin Star review top flights.
And then Cassandra, like Mario
said, told us it was also inspiring.
it was a fricking fantastic match.
It was such a vibe.
BMO was rocking.
It was everything it was supposed
to be for like a Sunday afternoon.
It was gloomy.
It was like the perfect weather
for a soccer game where you
just like scream your head off.
I was like, I'm gonna be hoarse in
the first 20 minutes of this game.
And I was like, it.
It was a jam.
