Mario: but we should make, like a Casual
FC like trading club, like card club
'cause I, I saw people in line,
the, is it the yellow one?
The, the yellow 20 25 1?
Angela: Yeah.
They still have him in the store.
I've ripped a pack every
game.
Hey everyone.
Welcome to Casual fc, an Angel City Match
preview and footy therapy pod featuring
two podcast certified footy therapist.
I'm your host, Angela
Morales with Dad of the year.
Dad of the century.
Dad of the
Mario: Oh,
Angela: Mario Salazar.
Mario: well, thank you.
Angela: Yeah.
Super Dad.
I should have been like, what's
the, what are the people who
like recruit for the Jedi calls?
That's who you really are since
you've, you've, indoctrinated your kids
Mario: well.
Yes.
Yes.
I think the Jedi go out
to recruit that.
I think that, yeah.
I, I, I imagine like Jedi coming out
with like pamphlets, have
you heard about the force?
Angela: Do you have some time to
talk about our Lord and Savior?
Savior Obiwan Kenobi.
Mario: there's a picture
of him in every Latin home.
yeah, they, the kids have been
fully introduced into Star Wars now.
We've, we have all the, we have all the
like, kids books and five minute stories
and so they're all familiar with it.
It's really cute when, at a point
Maddie started connecting the dots
between stories where she was like,
this is why he has a robot arm.
Or you know, and, and and then it took her
a really long time to connect Anakin and
Darth,
spoiler alert.
but she finally got there, through
the books, through the stories.
and so now we're watching
all the movies in 30
to 45 minute increments.
No, we're watching the release order.
Angela: oh good.
Mario: Yeah.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
Angela: my opinion.
Mario: But it's been great.
And they're, totally in love.
And, I just sent a picture, to Angela
that, my son, the youngest one, he had
a cub scout thing where they had to,
make race cars outta cardboard boxes.
And they were wearing them like
little, you know, like the old,
like guy in the barrel with the like
Angela: Yeah.
Mario: And then, they were running
laps and they had to do something
Angela: That's so
Mario: It was really fun.
but he wanted to build a tie fighter,
Angela: That's amazing.
It's so cute.
Like he's standing there
and he is so proud.
He's just I am like, it is
very much like I have lived
my whole life for this moment.
Mario: yeah.
yeah.
it was fun.
It was, it was a fun time.
Angela: That's awesome.
This weekend was very busy for both
of us as both, as many of you know.
but this is our match preview for
the Angela's birthday match or day
after my birthday match against
Utah Royals on Saturday May 2nd.
Mario: Birthday
Angela: a BMO I know Big birthday weekend.
BMO five forty five kickoff streaming on
ION is part of the double triple header,
whatever they're doing now because
we're too close to WNBA season and my
brain is full of sports iHeartRadio,
Isaac and Tracy Peru, the besties.
And it is Asian American Native
Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage.
Heritage Night, I can get the
whole acronym out, not Heritage.
Okay, that's where we are tonight.
So there is a special ticket to buy, so
you get the scarf giveaway or if you're a
season ticket holder, look for the email,
click the link, go through that thing.
But yeah.
It'll be an interesting matchup, but
we'll talk about that in a minute.
Mario: Yeah.
Yeah.
Angela: A long minute.
Mario: yes, but first.
Let's
talk about the fact that our Angela,
she's, she's already blushing.
as I mentioned last week, was invited to
be a speaker at the Queer Women in Sports
Panel that was held at Watch Me Sports Bar
as part of the Lesbian Visibility Week.
And, it, it turned out to be amazing.
I think everybody that
went had a great time.
It was awesome.
I unfortunately live way too far
to have dad duties and be
like, I can be there too.
No.
Angela: No.
I, I flat out told Mario, don't come.
Mario: yeah,
Angela: but, and I was like, Nope,
Mario: she, she told me,
don't come.
That was very much a I'm not gonna
listen to you and I'm gonna come.
But family duties
did, take precedent.
Angela: said, dad of the year,
Mario: but.
When it came time to, see it, I was
glad that watch me live streamed
the panel and my kids actually were
watching a movie for themselves.
it was just kind of like
downtime at the house.
'cause we were out in the morning
doing all the stuff, going to a
kid's birthday party, doing all
that, you know, family type stuff.
And, I got to, you know, sit at home.
I actually put my headphones on 'cause
the kids talking and everything.
And then them watching their movie
was kind of loud and distracting.
but I watched the entire panel.
I watched it from the beginning when
someone was holding, when the, the
person was holding the camera.
Angela: turned yet.
Mario: Yeah.
so I watched it from the beginning all
the way to the end when they logged off.
I
watched the entire thing
and when I tell you.
Our girl killed.
It was amazing.
It was amazing panel.
I think everything, all the
conversations were super important.
we did get a live Angela cry, but
two things.
One, that's not gonna count.
That's not gonna count for the pod, right?
Because
she didn't cry on
the pod.
but two, I think what,
what the rest of the panel has
kind of told you afterwards
was like really important.
And I think that's, that's one of the
reasons why I think you, you killed it.
and yeah, like you told me
that they, they told you that.
Like you opening up that way, kind
of let everybody else be okay with
that and let everybody else be like,
okay, yeah, this is, this is safe.
This is good.
We're gonna talk about what we're
gonna
Angela: got real, got raw, real fast.
Like even before we were downstairs.
So watch me has a little,
balcony, like upstairs area.
and we were sitting up there just talking.
It's like fish, Rachel, the
moderator, TIFF and Nat.
And we're just like sitting up there,
just kind of just shooting the shit and
it was just getting to know each other.
So we had a little bit of a rapport
going into the, the like official panel.
LOBs, the host was up there.
We were all just like goofing around.
It was so silly.
but it was just really cool because
we were talking about like big brain
things and then big, we started getting
like deep into conversation upstairs
and all of a sudden we were like,
are, who's are, are we gonna cry?
And I was like, yeah.
And they're like, wait, what?
And I was like, a hundred percent.
If you've ever seen me talk about
anything related to sports, I will cry.
And they started cracking up.
They're like, sure, Angela.
And the second I did it was
like, oh, she wasn't kidding.
And it was funny because, once that
happened, Nat, who was like two
people down from me goes, bro, thanks.
Now I know, now I know I can cry too.
And later in the panel, her voice cracked.
And I was like, oh, hell yeah.
Not just me, not one single
tear fell Rachel next to me.
Her eyes welled up, not one single tear.
Meanwhile, my eyes are just like
draining buckets for five minutes
after that moment in the beginning.
But I'm just so grateful for the
opportunity for everyone who came out,
for everyone who watched it, who has
watched it, who's gone to watch me,
like Instagram to rewatch it, whatever.
Thank you a million times over, my
coworker who, who's become a very
good friend of mine, and her partner
came and they made a fert sign.
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: So I have to take it.
I have it.
So I have to take a picture
of it and show it to you.
'cause it
Mario: That's awesome.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
I, I, I think that the panel was
really great if anybody missed it.
the great thing is that Watch
Me does have it on their
social, on their Instagram page.
They do have the entire, panel
up there, so if you want to
go watch it, it's, it's there.
It's, it was a great conversation.
I started adding a bunch of comments
and questions in the, in the thread,
but I don't think anybody saw it
in the, on the Instagram live.
but it was good and, I think,
I think it was awesome.
And I will say Angela
did such an awesome job.
She's going to be a
speaker Again, She's going,
Angela: minute.
Mario: there's actually another panel
that, Jack's from the owner of, watch
me announced, or was Promoing after,
you know, that the whole panel was over
and she was talking about it.
live, there is a panel this
Saturday or this Sunday?
My bad.
This Sunday on May the third, it's gonna
be at 1:00 PM again at Watch Me, but
there's gonna be more heavy hitters,
right?
Angela: little bit.
Little bit different.
So it's actually kicking off
long Beach's Pride month, which
is the month before Pride.
Pride like in June.
So the month of May and Long Beach is just
like Pride Parade, event, event, event.
It just packed.
So we kinda get to kick it off
that weekend and I'm very excited.
Mario: nice
Angela: Very, excited for this panel.
So who's on it, Mario?
Tell them.
Mario: tell them, tell them.
well, besides our one and only Angela
is going to be on there, Julie Erman
will be a, special, guest panelist
Maybelle Blair, who's, how old is she
now?
She was,
Angela: She is 99.
Mario: she's
99.
Angela: know who the Maybelle Blair
is, she is the, or one of the last
remaining living players who played in
the All American Girls Baseball League.
Like the league that a League of their
own was written and, and made a movie
from, was the league she played in.
And she is a force to be reckoned with.
She came out at 97
because she's like that.
That wasn't an option.
Did things happen?
Dov?
Of course, like not every generation
has the vocabulary for what is happening
because it just doesn't exist yet.
Language is fluid and things change
and, and social norms change and like
things that are acceptable, change
and advance and move all around.
And her lifetime has been full of that.
And I think.
I honestly think she got a little bit
of a extra lease on life because she was
like, screw it, I can do what I want.
this is what I've been
waiting for my whole life.
I've already, you know, pushed
the boundaries and been a pioneer.
I now just live my life sick, like cool.
And so I'm, I'm very excited.
There was another person who's supposed
to be on the panel, but as the head
coach of the women's football team here
in Los Angeles, their team made the
playoffs and she's got a game to coach.
So super dope for her.
Very excited, but she won't be there.
So I'm not sure if it's gonna be
like, replaced with someone else
or how they're gonna handle it.
So it might just be the three of us,
but either way, I'm freaking stoked.
Mario: it's awesome.
so for anybody that's going to be
in the Long Beach area this weekend
again, go out, go to watch me hang out.
It's always a good time
at the bar anyways.
I think that if you've never been to
watch me, it's just a really fun vibe.
The food's great.
the,
Angela: Bring quarters because my friend
Jillian has a trading card vending machine
there, and there's some bangers in there.
We may have hit the banger, the
bang iest of the bangers with
a an out of five Lindsey Vaughn
auto like auto card autographs.
that needs to be replaced.
Mario: I mean, just up, up, up and up
for Angela here, and I'm so proud of you.
I'm
so proud of, of, you know what, we started
doing this for the giggles and it has
always been for the giggles, but it's
always had an undercurrent of look, we,
this could be serious, this could be
something, especially for you wanting
to be in the, in the field, right?
Any kind of door that we can open or any
kind of, foothold that we can get just
to kind of get into that, has been great.
And it has, I mean, you've gone to
tons of events where you've mentioned
the, a casual FC and people either
surprise you and know about it,
Angela: Yeah.
Mario: right?
There's been times where
you come back from to, to,
when we're
Angela: And I'm like, oh my God.
Mario: crap thing.
I mentioned this to someone and
they're like, oh yeah, I've seen you.
Angela: Oh my God.
That's you.
Yeah.
That's wild.
but the best part about this weekend
was finding out through a friend of
the pod Off the record, has been giving
like multiple people from different
facets of the soccer world that we're a
part of have been, asking this friend,
oh my God, have you watched Casual FC?
Oh my God, duh duh, duh.
Have you seen this?
And they're just like, yeah, duh.
but doing it.
So it's oh no, I wait until they give
their like feedback before I tell them no.
I'm friends with you,
I've been to your house.
so that way nobody censors themselves.
And I love this.
I love it so much.
I mean, most people that know me know
I am very much here for the drama.
I don't want my own, I want
to know everybody else's.
So this is that, that feeds into
that part of that of oh heck
yeah, somebody's talking about us.
do they report back?
No, this, I just found this out by
chance and I think it's hysterical.
So best part of my weekend
Mario: well, find the,
happiness wherever we can.
All right.
Well, we had a match and it.
Angela: we did.
Mario: Did not necessarily go our way.
I think there was still some good things.
There's some,
Angela: yeah.
Mario: there's some very, big thoughts.
And again, footy therapy
is always happening on the
discord and, on Instagram.
After every game we post it up, it's
kind of our, it's, it's our chance to
be able to talk with you and or just
everybody to, especially on the discord is
everybody to be able to talk to each other
about it.
Just kind of, you know, get your
feelings out there or what you think.
And sometimes it's like people
writing paragraphs, other
times it's just like blurbs.
Our prompt was "Late heroics
didn't quite make it.
Onto the next one."
Honestly.
There were good and bad.
someone pointed out, Hey, yes, we lost.
Out of the first five
games, we still won three.
Like it, you know, we're, it's not
all doom and gloom, it's just recency
bias.
We're,
we're like, so yes, Ethan
came in with the Haiku.
Yes.
Chilufya, some scattered box energy.
Yes.
Jun busting out
Angela: Jun looked good.
Mario: Yes.
Yeah.
My, my daughter was hyped to like,
Angela: I meant to ask you like how
pumped was Maddie to be at Jun's first
game back, like real big game back?
Mario: so as she was getting ready,
she was like slowly kind of like
putting her stuff together and
she was excited to go, but she was
just like, you know, taking
her time, gathering her stuff.
And I was like, Hey Maddie,
guess what Jun might play today?
And she goes, really?
And then she just grabs
her stuff and she's
Angela: She is let's go.
Mario: Yeah.
And this was at, this was like when we
were getting ready to, to leave, right?
So this was at like one
o'clock or, or whatever it was.
and so she was, she was hyped
and then in the middle of the,
in the middle of the game when I
noticed that Jun was getting up
and she was, she already took the
penny off and she was ready to go.
I was like, Maddie, Maddie.
And then she's just she was so giddy.
She was so like, excited.
She like clapped and yelled really
loud.
So
Angela: favorite.
Mario: it was really great.
She was, she had a lot of fun with it.
I'm really happy that she's
like really getting into, into
it all.
and yeah, she, Jun, Jun had a performance.
Like she, she looks like
she's wearing a go, right.
But definitely restricted minutes.
you know, you're, you're coming
back into this, you're not
gonna do a full 90, but it
Angela: And plus like coming back
from this break, we came back with
more knocks than we left with.
So Ary's on limited minutes, student's
on limited minutes, s's out with
an ankle injury for a little bit.
Like
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: stuff happened.
And that's part of why
Sunday went the way it went.
Mario: yeah.
And yes, we talked about,
Karsyn, coming, coming
back
and Syd coming back.
And again, they were just announced to
be kind of coming back, or at least in
training or somewhere near training.
It doesn't mean that they're going
to, they were gonna be on field,
but that's just them getting closer to it.
And you know what?
They still probably won't
make it before the June break,
Angela: Yeah.
But
Mario: but it means that they're
training to the point where
they're about to get onto the field.
So
with that, hopefully that
will start giving us rotation,
Angela: made a really good point.
I don't remember if it was in the Discord
or on Blue Sky or Threads, because
I have been on the internet a lot.
someone made the point that the league's
quote unquote recommendation is that
for moms coming back from maternity
leave, it's a minimum of four to
five weeks, obviously, depending on
'cause not pregnancy's not easy, not
not everyone can train into their
32nd, 33rd week the way Claire was.
Not every pregnancy is easy.
well, I don't think any pregnancy is
easy, frankly, your guts get rearranged.
But, textbook, I guess I should say,
so the, the league recommendation
is a minimum of four to five
weeks after delivery or like after
returning to training I think it
is that they can come back, which.
If Claire, because I feel like Claire
is like ahead of the curve, you know?
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: if that were the case, the
first possibility of her to come
back would be on the ninth, which
is like the Mother's Day game,
Mario: Okay.
Angela: which would be absolutely insane.
I feel like BMO would just be like, and
yeah, everybody would freak out, but
Mario: Yeah,
Angela: there's always that possibility.
But yeah, I agree with Mario.
I don't think we're seeing Jun or
Syd before the World Cup break.
Mario: yeah, yeah.
We're definitely seeing them
slowly being integrated.
I kind of think this is, going to
be a tale of two halves of a season.
it's, but,
Angela: Same.
Mario: but that's not to say in previous
seasons it's been a tale of two house,
where it's doom and gloom the entire time.
This is more, we see
the progress, we see the
things changing.
It may not go our way here and
there, but you know what, we're,
we're progressing in the right way.
Joel came in with, it's frustrating
to lose points in getable games.
Past season trauma, really the
Houston game of first half was
probably the only truly weak play.
So again, like we were saying,
it's, we haven't looked bad.
things just didn't go our way.
Like with Orlando, it was just
a lot of crashing the box.
Those were just fluky goals and
Angela: and it wasn't even till the,
the very last 14 seconds of the game,
it felt like that anything happened.
It was just a, a stalwart of defense.
Mario: yeah.
Eva did come in with a very common
thread that was happening, with, with,
ev ev All over the internet
was, was, with Angelina Anderson's
kind of distribution performance
in the last couple games really.
and Eva came in with, you know,
Angelina Anderson in Goal is pretty
uncomfortable for me, and it feels
like Sarah Gorden is the last line
of defense instead of Angelina, who
at this point feels like a coin flip.
But I think Prisca getting her first
goal is going to open the floodgates.
I think so too.
That was a great run on
that last goal, and it,
Angela: I,
Mario: seemed to hype everybody to
be like, Hey, we can get one more.
We can get one more.
Angela: it had the same
energy of that goal.
I don't remember what game it was.
I don't, I think it was her return game
after the foot injury when Syd came
back and scored like a bleeping banger.
Went into the goal, picked up the
ball and said, let's fucking go.
And ran back to the midline.
that's the vibe.
'cause Prisca didn't
even, there was no cellie.
She just was like, yes and ran
Mario: we, there's
no time There's no
time for
Angela: don't have time for this.
No celebration.
We play again.
And I just wanted to be known.
I stood up and I lost my mind
when that ball went in and I was
like, copper queen, oh my God.
I.
We were just like Eva and I, 'cause half
our section homies weren't there because
Vero is in Portugal and Spain, whatever.
Richie's at a festival in Vegas, whatever.
Like the homies weren't there.
So it was just me and Eva
like hanging out with Yesi.
Not to slight Yesi obviously, we
were all freaking out, but the
vibes were very much oh my God.
For me, I was like, I talked
for 3000 years yesterday.
I'm very tired.
Like all of us were just like
kind of low energy that happened.
I could have run laps around
the stadium at that point.
I was just like, ah.
And then I realized, I'm like, Prisca
might be my favorite player right
now, just because she's a vibe.
She and I, I don't normally go for
players just for vibes, but like
Prisco's smile lights up a room,
her energy on and off the pitch.
Perfect.
Like
I, I'm like, how am I, how
can I be friends with you?
But then after the game, I got to
meet her family and like some other
zombie and folks that were there to
see her, told 'em about the podcast.
So if you're saying, Hey guys, what's up?
Mario: Hey,
what's up?
Angela: you I will talk
about Prisca forever.
but
Mario: yeah, I
think, yeah.
that that was super exciting.
I think overall the, the discourse around
Angelina, has, it, it's, it's kind of,
it's a little bit of an ongoing thing.
We had this issue last season
also.
There was a little bit of
an up and down with her.
I think you made a really good point
that, at the moment there doesn't
seem like there's been a really steady
goalkeeping coach presence, to, and
that's just based on the fact that
Angela has seen job postings for a
goalkeeping coach.
Angela: Or like ahead of Goalkeeping.
So it's one of those where I
just pay attention and I'm like.
Maybe M.A.
okay.
And I don't know if that means
that people have been coming and
going, or contracts are changing.
You know, like sometimes they, like in
California, you legally have to post a
job if somebody's like transferring into
it or something that has to be posted
for a week to give ample opportunity for
a outside person to get that position.
So that could be it too.
But over the last couple
seasons, honestly, since Dan
Ball left, there's been a lot of
up and down of, coaching staff.
Not the entirety.
Sam Lady's still there,
Elle's still there.
And I think that's it.
There's a, you know, a couple other
assistant coaches and things like that.
So there's been coaching
movement and Goalkeeping has
been one of those positions.
So I'm curious if that's part of it,
because Angelina trains with Dan Ball
in the off season and it's almost
like that, you know, when you go to
Well, I don't know if you know, but,
'cause generally I just don't know.
But, when you go to a sport-based camp
over summer and you get coached by like
super elite coaches and then you come
back and you're like, oh fuck yeah.
Like you're just balling out and
then three weeks later you're
just back in your old like habits
because you don't have those voices,
like in your head super fresh.
that's honestly what it feels like for me.
So I'm very curious
how that shifts.
Mario: there was a lot of, when she
was trying to boot the ball out,
her distribution was kind of way off.
It was, it was either going into
the middle of nowhere, she wasn't
actually passing it to anyone or,
or half the other half of the time.
She was just getting way too under it.
She was essentially slicing the ball
where it would pop straight up
and have so much back spin that
it's, it wasn't going anywhere.
So it stayed
in our half,
Angela: forward, momentum,
Mario: it stayed in our defensive
half the entire time she kicked it.
And I'm just like, why?
Angela: I knew that had
to be frustrating for her.
'cause that's not what you want to happen.
that's never the goal.
Mario: Yeah, I, yeah, that, that's,
I, I mean, I, I understand and I
feel, I, I feel bad if she's just
having a, a, that kind of like
rough period of not necessarily
getting what she wants to get out.
But also, you know, it, it begs the
question if it's time to give someone,
because we've always talked about like
the, the Goalkeeping position is one of
those where It's yours until you lose it.
Like any other position, anybody
can be better than you, at practice
and they've taken your spot,
right?
Goalkeeping, you're just kind of default.
You're there until you screw up.
And it, is it time
Angela: I don't know.
Yeah.
And it's I don't know.
Mario: And she's made
a couple great saves.
She's also been way out of position.
For a number of things.
So it's kind of like a,
as Eva mentioned, It's
Angela: It's a coin
Mario: it's coin flip.
I don't know.
but I think everybody in general was
like, Jun's return Prisca on the, on
the field Prisca's goal was amazing.
Angela: there was more good
than like outright bad.
There was
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: but it wasn't like it.
Somebody said a few weeks
ago, are we a good team?
Like instead of a a, like a bad
team with good players, are we a
good team with more room to grow?
what is happening?
And that like I still have that hope
because there's still so much changing
internally with players coming back,
people getting injured this last
international break, things like that.
So I don't know.
Also, speaking of injuries.
Big shout out and well
wishes suggest Fishlock
Mario: Oh
Angela: off.
Mario: Yeah.
That's tough to see
Angela: I saw that
Mario: hear.
I didn't see it, but to
Angela: yeah, I did not watch it.
because it was an ankle
injury and I don't need that.
flashbacks, but they said it came,
her x-rays came back negative, which
means there's no visible bone damage.
But that doesn't mean
not soft tissue damage.
And is somebody who has done a,
a number, I guess is the right
word of soft tissue damage on an
ankle, that shit hurts like hell.
Mario: As, As, we were just talking
about our medical trauma earlier.
Angela: Yeah, honestly, as some, as
somebody who has a $25,000 ankle, all
the best wishes to Jess fish, like this
is not how you're supposed to go out.
I'll still cry about your career, but
this is not how this is supposed to end.
Mario: yeah,
Angela: fingers crossed, well
wishes all the good things.
Send them to Jess Fishlock, please.
Mario: Yeah.
And, yeah.
Well just to wrap this up, there
was a couple last minute ones from,
Angela: Oh yeah, sorry.
Mario: Zach came out with yes,
we found our footing, but it
was a bit way too late, fuming.
But hey, we got Jun and,
Jun back in a to Lu goal.
and Kevin, something that we were even
talking about, Kevin is, is, new to the
Instagram and the Discord and stuff,
but something that we were even talking
about, his, comment was shocked at how
little power our shots on Target had.
And we were even talking
about, it was a little weird.
It looked a little
Angela: Yeah.
Mario: Every cross just seemed
to be a half step Too late.
Angela: Yeah.
Or it was like the ball
just lost all the energy.
Mid pass
Mario: Yeah,
Angela: like mid shot on goal.
we had some great looks and
then it just looked like the
ball just was like slow motion.
Mario: yeah.
Angela: was weird.
It didn't feel real.
Mario: no, and like I, that I would've
blamed usually on tall grass, you know,
and but the, the BMOs kept pretty tight.
Angela: was super slippery though.
Mario: It was they,
Angela: So I,
Mario: they usually
keep it super slip.
they
usually keep it super slippery.
like they water, they water
it pretty well during the
games.
I, it, it just felt like every time they
were setting up and planting for a pass,
like there, their plant foot was like
half a ball behind where it needed to be.
Or they didn't time the planting
in, in time where the ball just
rolled a little too far from them.
So when they hit it, it just didn't land.
Right.
So yeah, we were like talking about
that during the game too, and I'm
like, it is just a little weird.
Like things are just a little off, like
across the
Angela: It's that,
that dial that we always talk
about that needs to be calibrated.
It got kicked around,
you know, and it's oh God, my
settings are all messed up.
You gotta go fix it.
It's like when someone else drives
your car and moves like the air vents
and you're like, I'm
sweating, like I'm melting.
And it's because something
got moved like a millimeter.
Mario: It's, it's like when,
Jen uses, my car, like she has
her own her setting of the seat.
So the seat.
moves up and then I get
in and I'm like, squished.
And then I'm like, and I
always smash my knees and yeah.
so overall sentiment, happy.
Jun's back to feel Gold was amazing.
A little iffy about, Angelina and, you
know, things were a little bit off,
but I think once people got over the
dub and gloom and we started talking
about it, I think we all kind of came
at least on the Discord team to the
realization that there are things that
are working, more things than not.
and it's just
unfortunate that these results
happened, but, it is what it is.
I actually missed the second goal.
The second goal against us,
getting water for Maddie.
Like I, as I was coming back, I
hear ah, and I was like, ah, damnit.
Angela: Yeah.
And I was, I was mentioning this in
a break or a, a stream of someone
who, streams like card breaks and
stuff like that for card collectors.
'cause now that's who I am.
It's my entire personality.
and we were talking about that goal
and they're like, yeah, I was so great.
And I was like, now if you're an
Angel City fan and my proud for
so am I, I'm happy she's back.
Good job.
You ripped the bandaid off girl.
Why did it have to be that one?
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: And they all started cracking up.
They're like, and there's
the Angel City fan.
I'm like,
Mario: Yeah.
yes.
Angela: M.A.
also had a great game and shut down
Giselle a lot, which I told a few
people in the Discord, that's fine.
But no
M.A.
can have a great game, no one else.
And they did not listen to me properly.
So
we'll Rediscuss in
Portland in a couple weeks.
Mario: I I love the, the, there was a
couple of gifts going back and forth
'cause we do have a fan, uh uh, that.
Is in our discord that, follows M.A.
So now they're a Portland band
and, but, but he's awesome.
And he's still on the Discord, but
he comes
in being like, sorry, sorry guys.
And I'm like, you're dead to me for
Angela: Yeah.
Just like you're dead to us.
And they're like, all right, see you
in a hundred minutes as friends again.
Bye.
Mario: all right.
So real quick, scores around the league.
we have, Louisville, beating
Orlando three to two.
We have the spirit beating Kansas,
four to nothing again, can, what's
Angela: I don't know
Mario: I don't
Angela: Kansas City.
Mario: Gotham Beat Bay, three to zero.
The stars beat, Boston, two to nothing.
Boston is still winless for the season.
they're the only team with no wins at all.
so no points, no ties, no wins at all.
They're, they're.
At zero at the moment.
Houston lost to North Carolina.
The San Diego wave beat
Denver three to two.
of course we ended up losing two to
one to Portland and Utah, who we're
going to be talking about in a minute,
beat, the Reign three to nothing.
So real quick, we've got a chaos award
for the week, and then we'll get into our
Angela: Yeah.
I would like to formally
complain to all of BMO, everybody
who runs it, who authorizes
Mario: You mean you, you weren't
into a club 2, 2, 7 up there, like
with the.
Angela: I was pissed
because my seat was shaking.
Here's the thing, I don't wanna leave
the stadium with an effing headache
every single game with my ears ringing,
and I had earplugs in 90% of the
game, and it was still that loud.
And I'm just like, you guys,
nobody needs this music this loud.
Nobody likes it.
No one in the stadium is
this is the perfect volume.
Like literally nobody.
Little kids are like, ah, adults
are like, I'm overstimulated.
This sucks, and you don't get
to enjoy the game as much.
And like we were like, oh, I wonder
if it's because they're trying
to drown out the like kids event
or whatever that was outside.
I don't care if I can hear
that because you know what?
I could hear over the
bullshit the last time.
It was that loud, the rave.
And that just made it worse because
it was like, and then it was
like in the stadium and I just,
I do, we need a petition, like
I don't understand because the
speakers are so loud, you can't
understand the announcements.
Sometimes you can't understand
the, the in game host you like.
It's just so bad.
You could turn it down like 50
decibels and it would be fine.
Mario: yeah, yeah.
Angela: And yeah, I have no issue
going to loud events, concerts, anything.
But like it doesn't need to be.
That I don't need baby shark blasting
at 500 decibels at 2:00 PM on a Sunday.
Mario: I mean, that baby shark
remix was pretty, pretty good
though.
Angela: it did kind of slap though.
Mario: Yeah.
I, I will, I will say anybody who's
a season ticket holder, and I don't
know if you get these when you just
buy tickets, but there is always a
post match survey that gets sent out.
and they do have fields for
you to just type stuff in.
So if you
keep sending
Angela: do is bitch about the the volume.
Every single game.
Mario: my
Angela: Every game.
And I know at least five other
people that do the same thing.
Mario: my thing is, the AI concession
checkout machines, I complain about those
'cause those are
Angela: scanny ones.
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: Oh, I like those.
Mario: Oh no.
They slow everything down.
Like it just takes forever to,
Angela: Oh, I never have an issue.
I just walk up.
I'm like, boop.
Okay.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Mario: Anytime I've gone
in line for something.
Okay.
Okay.
my
soapbox, my
soapbox will be for another day.
Angela: also.
Triple Beam pizza is at BMO now
and I'm really hoping 'cause they
didn't do a lap before the game.
Were they bad?
Mario: I am a little sad that it's
essentially the same pizza from
last year with a triple bean box.
Angela: I
Mario: not triple bean pizza.
I've had triple bean pizza.
It's not
Angela: It's not, I wonder
if they just ran outta boxes.
'cause Triple Beam was in the,
the thing that, I don't know what
it's called outside the stadium
Mario: Oh, oh,
yeah, yeah,
Angela: that they don't
Mario: were in the, in the,
what's that thing called?
The fields?
Angela: Yeah, that
thing they were in there.
I wonder if they were
just left over boxes.
That sucks.
Nevermind.
To take back what I said.
Mario: No, it's if you haven't gone, I
mean, it's not like they raised the price.
It's still as expensive as, as it
normally was.
It's just in a peach triple bean box.
yeah, no,
Angela: because I was like, oh,
maybe they, since they closed
the cauliflower, cauliflower
the cauliflower pizza place
Mario: no.
Angela: Before the season ended.
Yeah.
So I was like, oh, if we have
triple beam pizza, maybe they have
triple beam, gluten-free crust.
'cause it's good.
But no, that would be, too
Mario: it was just one of
those things where like they, they
didn't necessarily make the triple
bean pizza and they just made the,
the standard one that they had.
But yeah, no, it's basically,
it's basically the same thing, but
just in a new wrapper.
Yeah.
Angela: All right, so turn the
volume down and get better pizza.
And also please have a
gluten-free option that's not.
Fruit or ice cream.
'cause sometimes we need to eat and
housing an entire like massive J jersey
mike sandwich in the parking lot sucks.
because then I sit there and I know
at least four other people that have
to do the same thing for same reasons.
We're just sitting there for an hour.
oh my God, I ate too much.
I don't feel good.
yeah.
Anyway, turn that shit down.
That's it.
So match preview against Utah.
We play Utah on Saturday at BMO.
We just need to get Right.
That's really my only talking point.
We just need to get back to who we are.
Play Angel City game because we haven't.
The last couple games, we were
forced to play Orlando Soccer.
We were forced to play Portland soccer,
and that did not end well for us.
We play Angel City Soccer.
That's great.
And like I mentioned earlier, we,
we came outta this international
break with more knocks than not.
So that's a bummer.
I would like our team to be healthier,
which will happen as obviously as the
weeks go on and, and things happen.
But we do have a three game week
coming up, so there's a lot to, manage
time-wise over the next couple
weeks you're gonna see weird
lineups, things like that.
This is like what I mentioned earlier in
the season where I said that we shouldn't
see iron players this year because there
are so many more games middle of the week.
if you're playing three games a week,
you're not playing 90 minutes every game.
Or you know, like you're not playing
the full game, but there's still so
much good happening for Angel City.
We're three for five.
We, even in the games we've
lost, we've played really well.
It's just been mini
mistakes here and there.
Mario: Yeah.
And we, we did see
Casey, for a few minutes,
Angela: Yeah.
We saw Casey
Mario: in this, We
saw Casey Phair for
a few.
Yeah.
So I mean, there we have, we do
have depth.
It's just actually utilizing that depth.
And
again, part of that utilization
is just are they healthy enough?
Are
they ready?
You know, so it's not just you
Angela: they get off a plane yesterday?
Like coming back from
an international game?
Mario: yeah.
Do we like the 12 that we've been playing
with, the 12 or 14 or whatever it was?
You know, the, the core team that we've
been playing with really right now just
seems to be the core healthy group that's
there.
And we still have more that will
be able to rotate and will be.
Hopefully like you know, that killer
squad, but it's just at the moment
we're like building into that.
That's why I'm saying like
there's probably going to be
like, we started off great.
And if things keep improving that
second half of the season after
the, the Jun break is gonna be
Angela: Yeah,
health reasons.
I think the Jun break is gonna
be so incredibly beneficial for
Angel City more so than other.
I mean, there's other teams that
also need the Jun break for different
reasons, but I think that month of
recovery is going to be so good for us.
But I also think this month
it's gonna be really fun.
We've got some
good match up.
Utah is very, mysterious in a way,
I don't know how to describe it.
They're not a front
runner, but they're like.
Like balls to the wall, you
know, they're like, whatever.
You don't think we got it?
Guess what?
We train at altitude.
you know, guess what?
We don't care.
they are, it's, they're the kind of
team that you have to prepare over,
prepare for, because you don't know
who's actually, you don't know a
version of them is gonna show up.
You don't know how they're going to
match up against you, and they're gritty
and they're willing to battle for it.
Mario: Yeah.
I mean, currently they are in
third place, with us in fifth.
and
Angela: With a game in hand,
Mario: yes, we have a game
in hand, but, they're not the
Utah of old where they were,
you know, struggling and stuff.
It's, again, this year a lot of the
struggle bus teams from previous
years have been, have been rising up.
Angela: and Utah's dealing
with injuries right now too.
So like Madison Hammond's out,
Mandy McGlynn has been out for
the first few months or the
first month of the, the season.
I think she's back now, but their
other goalie, Mia Justice, who'd
been starting is out with an injury.
Like it's whole, everything is
weird in every team right now.
nobody knows what's going on.
But there are a couple players I
wanna talk about because of their
impact on the season already for Utah.
The first one is Tatumn Milazzo, who
is like a thorn in everybody's side
because she's one of those players.
She's a defender, right?
She's number two.
So you'll see her.
she's a defender, but she's
everywhere and she's tied for Golden
Boot with two, three other players
on Utah.
So
Mario: Oh, on on Utah.
Angela: Yeah.
She has two goals on the season.
I've seen both of them and they
were bangers, and it's just okay.
She, she stays ready, you
can tell, and she plays up.
So she's an attacking defender at that.
So she's just I can defend
and I can beat your ass.
Like it.
so it's one of those where you
have to keep a body on her.
You have to keep eyes on her.
So I'm very curious who we're going to
put on her who that matchup is gonna be.
I have an idea, but I'm not gonna
say it out loud because one, I don't
want you who, I don't want the people
who play fantasy to bet on that.
And I don't want anybody to, because there
was a hot second where we thought somebody
was listening to the podcast because
then it would happen the next game.
We're not gonna do that again.
I don't wanna be held responsible.
But yeah, Tatum Mazo is a target.
We have to keep eyes on her.
The second player is honestly somebody.
I was like, who is this?
At the beginning of the season
and now I'm like, I could
watch you play soccer all day.
Is Lara Prašnikar, who is the
first Slovenian player in the NWSL.
She's the first Slovenian player,
obviously now to score in the NWSL.
She's a forward, she's number nine.
She has been playing
professionally for 10 years.
This is her first year in the NWSL, so
she's like not new to soccer at all.
Mario: Okay.
Angela: on the Slovenia National
team, like she's, she is a staunch
professional at this point.
She's deep in her career, but
for me, the most important thing.
Yes.
She's a goal scorer.
Yes, she's a great player.
Yes.
We have to mark her like all the normal
things that you would talk about.
She is one of 31 national team players
who signed a letter to the Football
Association of Slovenia, accusing the
entire national team, coaching staff
of all levels of abuse, racism, sexism,
homophobia, sexual harassment, like
all the things, physical harassment,
actual abuse, like with instances.
It was one of those and then
this and this on this day.
which is absolutely awful.
But as one of the team captains, she and
the other two captains met with, I guess
the, the federation or the, the football
association and the coaching staff and
caused the resignation of the coach.
Of the manager.
So good Ona.
Way to fight for the women you play
with and your own safety and all that.
And I, as I mentioned this weekend, hate
the fact that this shit still happens,
Mario: Yeah.
Angela: but I will bet on women
every time to get shit done.
'cause that's what we do.
But yeah, defend her because she
will score, she will find a way.
She scored on set pieces,
corners in the run of play.
I just don't want her to score against us.
Same with Tatumn Milazzo.
I don't want So
don't, don't let it happen.
Mario: as we say in all
weeks, just don't score on us.
It'd make
our lives easier,
Angela: Yeah.
No, thank you.
Please don't, I'm asking so nicely,
so I would really appreciate it if
you held up that end of the bargain
that maybe you didn't sign up
for, but too bad you're here now.
but no, Utah is going to
be a very gritty game.
I think they don't play, casually at all.
They are like I said, just balls
to the wall, get out and run
and go and we'll make it work.
But then with Angel City, I was
really excited that this happened.
Not for the reason why it happened,
'cause Ary is on limited minutes
right now, but Taylor Suarez, our new
midfielder who wears number 99, made her
first start on Sunday against Portland.
And she actually held her, she held
her own, like you could tell this was
her first start and she's oh God, I'm
playing real big minutes, not just
like 25, 30 at the end of the game.
Mario: Yeah,
Angela: and she played wonderfully.
She is a threat.
She, her scouting report is
gonna say that in her one year.
So she's a one and done college kid.
I haven't said that in a long
time 'cause it stopped following,
men's basketball as much.
But she's a one and done, played
one year at Florida State.
Had eight goals in 36 appearances,
and they won the natty.
So what ifs, no big deal.
What else is there to do?
okay, I'm done now, I'll just go pro.
Okay, bye.
she's also in the US soccer system.
She played on the U 17 team, U 20.
She's now with U 23.
So she's got big eyes on her.
She knows what's needed of her in
those situations, which is apparent.
She doesn't play timidly like you can
tell, it's oh, there's, there's glimpses
of oh my God, this is real life.
But at the same time, she's whatever.
And just runs through people.
So I'm really excited to watch her
grow because I think she's gonna be.
The starter until Ary's back 90 ready.
So we'll see.
But I'm excited for her and I'm excited
that this is, going to help her grow
and gonna help the midfield kind of move
through this like transition process.
And it'll be really good with
her having more minutes as we
get into the, three game week.
Mario: Yeah, that's coming up.
Angela: Yeah.
Mario: Yeah.
We're
gonna be getting into these, match heavy
weeks.
where we're not gonna have as much rest.
so it's really gonna test our rotation.
It's gonna test, who we have available,
who we have healthy, how well, how
well we can move the pieces, right.
The smart thing is not to go like a
hockey switch up where we're like in
Angela: Yeah.
No line changes.
Mario: Yeah, no, we want, we wanna
move like one to two pieces at a time.
See how they gel, see how they work.
Maybe move one more, like you don't,
Angela: Yeah.
Mario: you don't need to
replace everybody wholesale.
and really that's, that's
the rotation method.
It shouldn't be, you know, a hockey
rotation method, but, We will
see how we're, we're coming out.
I mean, we, we have a fairly
good history with the team.
Angela: Yep.
Just a little bit.
Mario: yeah, we have two, two
wins and two draws, no losses.
But like we said, this is
not
Angela: make it three.
Mario: what.
Angela: Let's make it Three
Mario: Oh, yes.
Let's make it three.
we, this is not the Utah vault, yeah,
let's keep our, our wits about us and,

other team just gets a, a lucky bounce.
Doesn't mean that the good luck.
Angela: I know it doesn't
mean the good luck goes away.
Sometimes the other team gets a
lucky bounce, but this week I'm
taking all the birthday wishes
and also making that good luck.
So we get good luck post birthday
Mario: Nice.
Angela: and it's good.
Mario: Let's.

Bye.
